The Social Quarter at Chadstone reimagines the retail-led destination as a vibrant mix of dining, entertainment and leisure centred around a lush urban oasis.
Strategically elevated on Chadstone’s western edge, the $70 million development spans 10,350sqm and completes the precinct’s dining and cinema offering.
The Social Quarter enables seamless customer connections while taking advantage of natural light and ventilation, and panoramic views of Melbourne’s city skyline.
Architecture and landscape design merges to blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors through integrated landscaped terraces, created in collaboration with LatStudios. Year-round comfort is achieved through considered shading and heating.
Interior design and spatial planning balance commercial, operational, and community needs, while also enhancing customer experience, permeability and tenant activation. Drawing on contemporary landscape architecture principles, the design integrates form, light, volume, and materiality into a cohesive whole.
Connections to the surrounding neighbourhood are reinforced by a striking feature staircase, and sculptural parametric façade developed with artist Matthew Johnson.
The Social Quarter is the first Australian project assessed under the Green Building Council of Australia’s new Green Star Buildings tool, achieving a 5 Star Green Star rating. Sustainability underpins every decision, from adaptive reuse of existing structures to reduce embodied carbon to a 199kW solar array that improves energy performance by more than 30%. Biophilic design elements and naturally ventilated winter gardens further enhance comfort and wellbeing.
Delivered in collaboration with LatStudios and Decibel Architecture, The Social Quarter sets a new benchmark for integrated entertainment precincts – a dynamic all-seasons destination that fuses architecture, landscape and culture in a distinctly Melbourne experience, day and night.
