Buchan has a long history with 260 Collins, originally designing the building, formerly known as Australia on Collins in the 1980’s. First opening in 1992, it became one of Melbourne’s most successful early examples of mixed-use developments, connecting Collins Street and Little Collins Street, and opening up the network of laneways and streets which spans the city’s entire length, known locally as the retail ‘ant-track’.
Since that time the site has undergone many changes that have hindered the site from reaching its full potential.
Buchan’s architecture and interior design teams are now working alongside Kaipara Property Group and UBS to revitalise and reposition the expansive arcade with a contemporary Melbourne-centric mix of commercial and retail, including a coworking hub on Level 2, and premium entertainment, retail, and hospitality offerings below.
The Buchan redesign will draw inspiration from the building’s rich history and the opportunity to adapt and repurpose existing features, to preserve the essence of the landmark site and “reclaim its prominence along what is arguably the city’s most well-known streets”.
