Buchan has partnered with Housing and Relief Charity to design a new multi‑residential, affordable and community housing development in Sydney’s south.
The project will provide temporary accommodation and emergency shelter for hundreds of people in distress each year, offering a safe and stable place to recover, rebuild and thrive.
Located close to a major transport hub and town centre, the proposed development exemplifies a model for financially sustainable housing that supports low‑ to moderate‑income residents, essential workers, and those facing financial disadvantage or socio‑economic hardship.
The scheme has been conceived as both a residential anchor and a community lifeline. In addition to providing accommodation, the development will serve as the base for the Charity’s free‑of‑charge or low‑cost community food, furniture and clothing market. This dual purpose extends the project’s impact beyond housing, helping to meet immediate material needs for individuals and families facing hardship.
Human-centred design principles guide the project, ensuring secure, quality living spaces, communal areas, and a welcoming environment that supports wellbeing, independence and connection.
