Sylvia Park

The architectural vision for Sylvia Park was to create a world-class retail centre and attract international brands.

During the day, Buchan’s design of The Galleria atrium floods the Sylvia Park expansion with diffused natural daylight. At night, discrete light sources up-light the curved surfaces of the ceilings providing a soft ambience. The design allows customers to move effortlessly from retail to leisure spaces without need for extensive wayfinding. The form and finishes of the interior provide an elegant backdrop that is a balance to the colours and materials used by retail tenants.

Buchan led the design and expansion of the Sylvia Park The Grove Dining District to accommodate six new restaurants, a new square, and dining lane. The silhouette of the signature dining pavilion relates to the forms and scale of the existing buildings and the angular geometry of the wing-like roof appears as if it is folded, like origami. The revitalised dining lane’s new automated canopy is supported by ‘structural trees’ enabling year-round outdoor dining.

In addition to The Galleria, The Grove and The Terrace at Sylvia Park, Buchan also designed the multi-level car park featuring a striking perforated metal façade to complement the restrained stripped-back interior with exposed ceilings and finishes.
