Shaping mixed-use precincts and destinations that stand the test of time

Buchan recently hosted the Urban Development Institute of New Zealand UDINZ Executive Luncheon in our new Tāmaki Makaurau studio.

Leading the conversation, Buchan Precincts Sector Lead Phil Schoutrop shared insights on shaping mixed-use precincts and destinations that stand the test of time citing compelling international examples from the Ipswich City urban regeneration and Northshore precinct plan in Queensland to a city shaping project in Chongqing, China.

Each case study demonstrates how visionary masterplanning – integrating commercial, civic, hospitality, and curated retail – can support adjacent residential and transform how people move and engage within urban spaces.

“The parallels with opportunities here in New Zealand are exciting, especially in how we achieve significant scale for future meaningful precinct work.” – Phil Schoutrop

Special thanks to Adrienne Miller, Chief Executive Officer of UDINZ for facilitating this important industry dialogue and to Scott Inverarity for bringing the conversation to life.
