With record visitor spend and 40,400 new accommodation rooms needed by 2035, the scale of opportunity for NSW's hotel and accommodation sector has never been clearer.
The Property Council NSW Hotel Outlook in February brought together industry leaders to explore the why, where, what and how of hotel development.
Destination NSW CEO Karen Jones set the stage with a compelling look at the drivers behind visitor demand and what it will take for NSW to hold its place as Australia’s #1 visitor economy.
Buchan Senior Associate Carol Leung joined an expert panel with James Aspinall, Senior Development Manager at TOGA; Catherine Modini, Senior Development Manager at Urban Property Group; and Gus Moors, Managing Director, Hotels & Hospitality Group at JLL, exploring the role of hotels in mixed use precincts, ‘quiet luxury’, how user experience is shaping design outcomes and what works from both capital and operational perspectives.
The conversation was as practical as it was visionary. As Carol put it: “The things that make us memorable activate the senses – what do you feel, what do you smell, what do you hear, what do you taste.”
The evening wrapped up with Buchan Senior Associate Nataly Ernst sharing Buchan’s approach to hotel design, from concept through to built form.
